Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Canada Bread Company, a subsidiary of Maple Leaf Foods, Incorporated (TSX:MFI) (Toronto, Ontario), has selected a site in Hamilton, a city in southern Ontario, to build what is purported to be the country's largest bread bakery. The company is planning to invest more than $100 million to build the new facility.
Canada Bread will consolidate operations from three aging facilities in Toronto that are scheduled to close. The company will close the first bakery in late 2011, the second early in 2012, and the third in 2013.
The company plans to construct a 375,000-square-foot building that will contain multiple production lines on initial startup of the facility in 2011.
The proposed location is a 24.7-acre site in the North Glanbrook Industrial Park.
Canada Bread plans to utilize local and regional resources for the design, engineering and construction of the Hamilton bakery.
