Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--One of the largest producers of directory paper in the world, Catalyst Paper Corporation (TSX:CTL) (Richmond, British Columbia) is solidifying its position this spring with a $12 million expansion at a mill in Port Alberni, British Columbia. The capital investment is aimed at increasing pulp integration and electrical distribution in the thermo-mechanical pulp line with the addition of two 34,000-horsepower refiner motors and the previous restart of the mill's Number 4 paper machine. The project schedule calls for the installation to take place during a four-day shutdown starting April 27, 2009.

The Port Alberni mill has two paper machines and an annual output of 231,000 tons of lightweight coated paper and 106,000 tons of directory paper. Catalyst Paper's North American manufacturing operations include a mill in Snowflake, Arizona, and four mills in British Columbia located in Elk Falls, Powell River, Crofton and Port Alberni.
