Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Chicago Bridge & Iron (NYSE:CBI) (CB&I) (The Hague, Netherlands) recently received engineering contracts for liquefied natural gas (LNG) plants in North America and Africa.
NextDecade (The Woodlands, Texas) has chosen CB&I to perform front-end engineering and design (FEED) and outline the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) terms on its planned Rio Grande LNG production and export project at the Port of Brownsville, Texas. NextDecade entered into the pre-filing process with the U.S. Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) in March.
In a press release issued May 13, NextDecade said, "The scope of the agreement covers all design and engineering activities required for the full FERC permitting process, as well as for the parties to prepare the procurement of critical equipment until the point of the Final Investment Decision (FID)."
The company said it anticipates full authorization for the facility from FERC in 2017, when it expects to commence construction, which will take place in phases that are "timed to meet market demand."
In Africa, Anadarko Petroleum Corporation (NYSE:APC) (The Woodlands, Texas) named a joint venture that includes CB&I, Saipem SpA (San Donato Milanese, Italy) and Japan's Chiyoda Corporation (Yokohama) as the contractor for the initial development of the company's planned LNG production facility in Mozambique. The facility will include two liquefaction trains, each with a capacity of 6 million metric tonnes per year.
Along with other companies, including Fluor Corporation (NYSE:FLR) (Irving, Texas) and Bechtel Group (San Francisco, California), a joint venture of CB&I and Chiyoda participated in the project's FEED work. Following the FID, the project could commence construction by 2017. The project will be fed from subsea natural gas pipelines from offshore rigs.
