Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--The signing ceremony of the general contract for civil work for Unit 2 of the Taishan Nuclear Power Station between China Guangdong Nuclear Power Corporation (CGNPC) (Shenzhen) and China Construction Second Engineering Bureau Limited (CSCEC2B) (Beijing), a subsidiary of China Construction Engineering Corporation Limited (CSCEC) (Beijing), was held November 29. On the same day, CGNPC also signed an agreement with CSCEC to conduct full-round strategic cooperation in nuclear power project construction, research and development, personnel training the the expansion of overseas markets.
Taishan Nuclear Power Station, located at Chixi Town in Taishan City, has a total planned capacity of six units to be built in three phases. Of these, two third-generation European pressurized reactors, each with a generating capacity of 1,750 megawatts (MW), will be built in Phase I.
Foundation excavation of the nuclear island for Phase I of the project began August 26, 2008. According to the schedule, construction of the main works will be officially started in September 2009, and the two units built in Phase I will begin commercial operation by the end of 2013.
CGNPC is the only enterprise directly under the central government with nuclear power as its main business in China. CGNPC currently owns four nuclear power units with a total installed capacity of about 4,000 MW, operated in Daya Bay and Ling'ao I in southern China's Guangdong province, and more than 10,000 MW of nuclear power units under construction in Ling'ao II, in Hongyanhe in northeastern China and in Ningde in eastern China's Fujian province. About 12,000 MW of nuclear power units are under construction preparation at present, including Yangjiang, Taishan in Guangdong province, Fangchenggang in the Guangxi Region as well as Dafan nuclear power projects in central China's Hubei province.
CSCEC2B is the only construction enterprise with comprehensive construction experiences in various types of power projects, including nuclear power, coal-fired power, hydropower, wind power and gas-fired power, in China. The Taishan project will be the fifth nuclear power project to be built by CSCEC2B.
