Chesapeake Energy Aims for LNG Market - Shale gas producer Chesapeake Energy (NASDAQ:CHK) (Oklahoma City, Oklahoma) plans to hire a liquefied natural gas (LNG) adviser, according to a job listing, as it seeks to expand into the fast-growing LNG export market. The company, which does not currently produce LNG, wants someone to "lead new business opportunities for Chesapeake" in LNG and provide executives with "guidance on LNG marketing activities," according to a LinkedIn posting.
Energy Transfer Signs LNG Agreement with China Gas - A unit of Energy Transfer LP (NYSE:ET) (Dallas, Texas) entered into a deal to supply 0.7 million metric tons of LNG a year to China Gas Holdings (Hong Kong) on a free-on-board basis for 25 years, the companies said on Sunday. Energy Transfer plans to build an LNG production and export facility in Lake Charles, Louisiana. U.S. Natural Gas Jumps 9% - U.S. natural gas futures jumped about 9% to a 13-year high on Monday on forecasts for hotter weather and higher demand than previously expected, a decline in output, rising LNG exports and record power demand in Texas. Front-month gas futures for July delivery rose 79.9 cents, or 9.4%, to settle at $9.322 per million British thermal units, their highest close since August 2008. That was the contract's biggest daily percentage gain since mid-February.
