Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--On December 22, the Development and Reform Commission of Sichuan province gave final approval for China Huadian Corporation's (Beijing) Egongbao Hydropower Station on the Muli Rover as well as for the Qingsong Hydropower Station on the Xixi River. The plants are the first two hydropower projects to receive approval since the disastrous May 2008 earthquake.
The Egongbao plant, which will be located in Lingshan Prefecture is the fourth project in a cascade scheme (one reservoir and six cascade stations) planned on the mainstream of the Muli River with daily regulation capacity. The project has a total installed capacity of 114 megawatts (MW) and an annual average power output of 528.1 gigawatt-hours. The Qingsong station will also be located in the Liangshan Prefecture and has a planned installation capacity of 100 MW. Both projects will be built and invested by Huadian Sichuan Power Generation Company Limited, a regional subsidiary of China Huadian.
For several years, Huadian Sichuan has been working to develop hydropower and other new energies. So far, the company has commissioned the 102-MW Zilanba Hydropower Station and the 138-MW Xuecheng Hydropower Station. The Lianbu, Luogu, Diluo stations on the Xixi River and the Shiziping and Gucheng hydropower stations on the Zagunao River are expected to begin operation in 2009. Construction of cascade hydropower stations on the Muli River and the Luding Hydropower Station is under progress.
The company has also gained rights to develop hydropower projects on the Eri and Rigurida rivers, as well as downstream of the Anning River. It is working to acquire the rights to develop the Dongfengyan and Longxikou projects on the mainstream of Minjiang River. The total installed capacity of these projects will be about 14,000 MW.
