Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas). The Director of Development and Planning at China Petroleum and Chemical Corporation (SINOPEC) announced on April 12 that by year 2010, the production of ethylene in China will reach 16 million tons per annum. The annual consumption by 2010 will reach 25 million tons. The estimated ethylene consumption this year is 20 million tons. Because of the on-going expansion of the existing schizolysis facilities, this years ethylene import will remain unchanged.
The construction of the joint schizolysis project, with a designed capacity of 800,000 tons of ethylene per year, by SINOPEC, Exxon-Mobil (NYSE:XOM) and Aramco in Fujian Province will be completed in 2008. And it will go into production in 2009. In Tianjin City, SINOPECs 1 million ton per year ethylene unit will go into production in the first half of 2009 as well. Because of the expansion of domestic ethylene production capability as mentioned, Chinas naphtha import will see noticeable increase.
