China's National Energy Administration Publishes 12th Five-Year Development Plan for Wind Power
The accumulative installed capacity of operational wind power in China will reach100 gigawatts and the annual output of wind power will reach 190 billion kilowatt-hours in 2015.
Released Monday, July 30, 2012
Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--The National Energy Administration (NEA) of China published the 12th Five-Year (2011-15) Development Plan for Wind Power on July 7, 2012. According to the plan, the accumulative installed capacity of operational wind power in China will reach100 gigawatts (GW), and the annual output of wind power will reach 190 billion kilowatt-hours in 2015.
The total installed capacity of wind power in the nine large-scale wind power bases--Hebei, East Inner Mongolia, West Inner Mongolia, Jilin, Jiuquan of Gansu, Hami of Xinjiang, the coastal area of Jiangsu, the coastal area of Shandong, and Heilongjiang--will reach 79 GW, and the installed capacity of offshore wind power will reach 5 GW.
The plan also says that the accumulative installed capacity of operational wind power in China will surpass 200 GW, with the annual output of wind power to reach more than 380 billion kilowatt-hours in 2020.
In order to achieve the above objectives, China will perform a series of key activities in wind resource evaluation, key technology development and industrialization, and grid construction to solve the difficulties in grid connection for wind power. As a support, the central government also will work out two major policies: to implement the quota system for renewable power generation and to establish a grid operation and management system suitable for wind power development; and to accelerate the construction of a smart grid and operational system suitable for the development of new energies.
As the end of 2011, the total installed capacity of operational wind power in China was 47 GW. Following the approval of the first batch of wind power projects with a total planned capacity of 18 MW in 2011, the NEA announced the second batch of wind power projects in March 2012, with a total planned capacity of 16.76 GW to be approved in the 12th Five-Year Plan. Considering the short construction period, the growth of wind power will be kept on stable in future years under the new objective of installed capacity for wind power.
