China’s Output of Power Generation Equipment Jumps to No. 1 in the World

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--The output of power generation equipment in China has jumped to No. 1 in the world, the China Machinery Industry Federation announced recently. Power generation equipment is the most typical example in key technical equipment products. In 2006, the output of power generation equipment in China reached 110 million kilowatts (KW), which is 18 million (KW) more than the record of 92 million (KW) created in 2005. In addition, the outputs of large and middle-sized tractors, shovel and transportation machineries, digital cameras, copy machines, plastic processing machineries, cranes, industry boilers, transformers, electrical tools, metal containers and motorcycles are all ranked as the top in the world.

Many innovative results have been achieved with power generation equipment in recent years, especially in 2006. Important breakthroughs in the research and manufacturing of key equipments such as 1,000-megawatt (MW) ultra-supercritical coal-fired units, 700 MW large turbine-generating units for the right bank power station of the Three Gorges Project, megawatt-level wind-power generating units, and ultra-high DC transmission and distribution equipment, have been achieved. Commercialized production of key and new products has been greatly accelerated. A 600 MW supercritical coal-fired unit received success in trial production in 2004, and the output was expanded to 40 sets in 2006. A 1,000 MW ultra-supercritical coal-fired unit received success in trial production in the first half of 2006, and four sets of them were produced with two put into operation successfully within the year.

Product structural upgrades in the machinery industry also accelerated in 2006. Large power generation equipment with high efficiency and low emission achieved rapid growth. The proportion of thermal power units with a capacity of 300 MW and above reached 76.14% in 2006, and the proportion of units with a capacity of 600 MW and above reached 48.5%. Units with a capacity of 600 MW and above gradually took dominance in thermal power generation in 2006.

A large quantity of large-sized clean and high-efficient power generation equipment, petrochemical equipment, coal-to-chemical equipment and large-sized metallurgic equipment made great contributions to energy conservation and emission reduction in 2006. Thermal efficiency of the newly developed 1,000 MW ultra-supercritical coal-fired units operated in Yuhuan and Zhouxian reached 45% and above, and coal consumption per kilowatt-hour 285.6 grams, which is 84.4 grams lower than the national average. More than 100 million metric tons of coal can be saved if such units replace half of the nation’s coal-fired units. Thermal efficiency of 15 sets of 9F class combined-cycle units produced in 2006 reached 55%. Important progress also achieved in the research and development of clean energy equipment includes hydropower, nuclear power, wind power and solar batteries in 2006.
