Conoco Phillips Accelerates Plans for Major Maintenance Turnaround at Ponca City Refinery

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--ConocoPhillips (NYSE:COP) (Houston, Texas) has moved up plans for maintenance turnarounds on a number of units at the company's 194,000-barrel-per-day (BBL/d) refinery in Ponca City, Oklahoma. A 33,000-BBL/d CTU 4 (Crude Unit 4), 25,000-BBL/d HT 9 (Diesel HT), and associated downstream units are scheduled to be shut down for maintenance overhauls on February 24, 2011.

The units originally were scheduled to undergo a 28-day planned turnaround in April.

Separately, a 35- to 40-day planned turnaround on the 76,000-BBL/d CTU 2 (Crude Unit 2), 35,000-BBL/d Fluid Catalytic Cracking Unit (FCCU) 5, CRU 2 (Reformer 2) and associated downstream units is on-schedule to begin in September 2011.

ConocoPhillips is also evaluating a capital improvement to the delayed coker unit at Ponca City. If approved, the company would modify the existing 25,000-BBL/d (2-Drum) Delayed Coker (ConocoPhillips Design) by replacing the drums that have reached the end of their life cycle with larger drums, while also incrementally creeping up capacity by 10%. The project would be implemented during a scheduled maintenance turnaround in the fall of 2013.
