Consolidated Edison Adds 100MW at West Springfield Massachusetts Power Station

Consolidated Edison Energy started construction of the two natural gas-fired General Electric (GE) LM6000 PC Sprint combustion turbine/generators in August 2001.

Released Thursday, June 13, 2002

Researched by Industrialinfo.com (Industrial Information Resources, Incorporated; Houston, Texas). Consolidated Edison Development, the non-regulated power generation division of Consolidated Edison, Incorporated (NYSE:ED) (New York, New York), is starting commercial operation of two 50 megawatt (MW) peaking units at the West Springfield Power Station in West Springfield, Massachusetts to bring the station's operating capacity to a total of 285MW.

Consolidated Edison Energy started construction of the two natural gas-fired General Electric (GE) LM6000 PC Sprint combustion turbine/generators in August 2001. The units were scheduled to be in commercial operation in last week of May 2002 but they are still being tested and are now expected to be on line by early June.

Consolidated Edison Energy bought the power station in July 1999 from Western Massachusetts Electric Company when the Massachusetts electric utility industry was deregulated. The station had a nameplate capacity of 232MW but one unit is not functional so the capacity was 182MW before the addition of the new peaking units.
