The makers of Blue Bunny Ice Cream, privately-held Wells Dairy Incorporated (Le Mars, Iowa) has begun construction on a new corporate headquarters campus in Le Mars, Iowa. An official groundbreaking ceremony took place late last month at the new location, located on forty acres in the small town of Le Mars, situated in the northwestern portion of the state that hails itself as the Ice Cream Capital of the World.

Plans call for the construction of a multi-tier, 178,000 square foot corporate campus for corporate offices, research and development, and a 9,000 square foot pilot scale manufacturing plant.

The company selected OPN Architects Incorporated (Cedar Rapids, Iowa) as the A&E Firm for the project, and the building will be constructed by Ryan Companies U.S. Incorporated (Clive, Iowa).

Construction of the $32 million campus is expected to take about fourteen months to complete, and 150 new jobs will be added to the current corporate workforce of about 400 people. Currently, corporate operations are housed in seven separate office buildings scattered throughout the city.

Wells Dairy, founded in 1913 in Le Mars, markets under the Blue Bunny brand, which can be found throughout the U.S. and in 28 countries, including Latin America and the Pacific Rim. The company employs over 2,700 production, sales, office, and support personnel and operates two ice cream plants and a milk plant in Le Mars, Iowa, along with the corporate headquarters, and also has a milk plant and freezer in Omaha, Nebraska, and an ice cream plant in Saint George, Utah.
