Construction on Schedule and Completion Near for Matalco’s Secondary Aluminum Smelter in Brampton, Ontario

Matalco will have an annual capacity to produce 200 million pounds of billet that will be sold to the extrusion industry across North America.

Researched by Industrialinfo.com (Industrial Information Resources, Incorporated; Houston, Texas). Matalco, Incorporated, an affiliate of metal recycler, Triple M Metal (Brampton, Ontario), had the official groundbreaking ceremony of its new state-of-the-art secondary aluminum smelter last November 2004. As scheduled, the plant, which is being built across from Triple M Metal’s recycling palnt, will be complete before the end of this year. The $50 million smelter is expected to expand Canada's capacity to recover and reuse aluminum scrap metal plus reduce industrial and consumer waste that would otherwise be destined for landfills. Matalco considers its remelting technology and equipment some of the most advanced and sophisticated in the world, with industry-leading environmental and energy-efficient processes resulting in virtually no waste products.

Triple M Metal was established over 30 years ago and operates in the U.S. and Great Britain. Its businesses include a real estate development company; MATALCO, the new secondary aluminum smelter, Versa Construction, a construction company, Integral Steel, a reinforcing bar fabrication plant, as well as interests in other metal recycling companies.

Matalco will have an annual capacity to produce 200 million pounds of billet that will be sold to the extrusion industry across North America. A majority of the in-feed material will consist of scrap aluminum from Triple M Metal. The project involved not only the construction of the new building, but also installation of natural gas-fired melting furnaces, billet forming equipment and an aluminum scrap handling and storage area. Matalco awarded Versa Construction, Limited (Vaughan, Ontario) to perform the civil and site work, the construction of a 110,000 square-foot building, as well as mechanical and electrical services. The turn-key equipment supply contract was awarded to Mechatherm International, Limited (Kingswinford, England).
