The project comprises two 85-MW MS7011EA turbines manufactured by General Electric Power Systems (Schenectady, New York), a division of General Electric (NYSE:GE) (Fairfield, Connecticut), operating in simple-cycle mode.
El Paso Electric generates approximately 1,000 MW of electricity throughout Texas and New Mexico and has been serving the El Paso metropolitan area for more than 100 years. The Newman plant has been operational since 1960.
