Construction Underway on Sweetwater II Windfarm Project
This phase of the project will involve the installation of sixty-one GE wind turbine generators
Released Friday, September 17, 2004
Researched by Industrialinfo.com (Industrial Information Resources, Incorporated; Houston, Texas). Catamount Energy Corporation (Rutland, Vermont), a non-regulated, independent power subsidiary of Central Vermont Public Service (NYSE: CV) (Rutland, Vermont) and DKRW Energy LLC (Houston, Texas), has commenced construction of the Sweetwater II Windfarm project in Nolan County, Texas.
In July 2003, Catamount announced the closing of its first U.S. wind project, Sweetwater I, a 25-turbine windfarm. Catamount, along with Babcock & Brown LP (San Francisco, California) and another major financial institution, are equity investors in the project. DKRW Energy is the project developer. Sweetwater I was completed in December 2003 and generates 35.7 MW of electricity from twenty-five General Electric wind turbine generators to be sold to TXU Corporation (NYSE:TXU) (Dallas, Texas).
Construction of Sweetwater 2 started this summer and is expected to begin commercial operation by late 2004, or early 2005. This phase of the project will involve the installation of sixty-one GE wind turbine generators, which will increase renewable energy capacity by 91.5MW and be available for the grid.
RES Construction (Austin, Texas), a subsidiary of Renewable Energy Systems Limited (United Kingdom), is the general contractor for the project.
DKRW, Babcock & Brown, and Catamount have signed an agreement to develop up to 400 MW of windpower at the Sweetwater Site, over the next several years. Completion of the second phase will bring total capacity to 129 MW.
