Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Consumers Energy (Jackson, Michigan), a subsidiary of CMS Energy Corporation (NYSE:CMS) (Jackson, Michigan), continues to improve its air-quality program by installing baghouse units at the Dan E Karn #1 & #2 Power Station in Essexville, Michigan.

The 530-megawatt (MW), bituminous coal-fired power plant has been in service 1959. It includes two 265-MW Alstom/Combustion Engineering and Babcock & Wilcox boilers and two Siemens Westinghouse cross-compound steam turbine generator sets. Both units are already equipped with selective catalytic reduction, low-nitrogen-oxide (NOx) burners and electrostatic precipitator to reduce the NOx level.

The baghouse installation will filter particulates and bring the plant into compliance with the federal requirements.

Foundation work is being structured, and engineering and construction will be undertaken by WorleyParsons Limited (Reading, Pennsylvania). Construction is scheduled to begin this summer with completion and tie-ins expected in spring 2010.

Consumers Energy is also considering a flue gas desulfurization scrubber to be in service sometime between 2012 and 2014.
