Researched by Industrialinfo.com (Industrial Information Resources, Incorporated Houston, Texas). Poeppelmann GmbH & Company, a German plastics manufacturer, has selected Calloway Johnson Moore & West PA (Winston Salem, North Carolina) to provide engineering and construction services for its new $15 million plastic horticultural products manufacturing plant on a 30-acre site in Claremont, North Carolina.
The $15 million project will involve construction of a 33,000 square foot production building, a 55,000 square foot warehouse building, as well as installation of production equipment to produce polypropylene thermoformed and injection-molded pots, with printing on the pot surface. The plant would employ 50 people initially. Construction is expected to start in April of 2005, with completion slated for late fall of 2005. Three more phases of construction are expected to follow, with the addition for production of plastic automobile parts, as well as items for the food and pharmaceutical industries.
In November of 2002, the German company began the siting process for the new plant by considering 66 sites, including sites in Western Pennsylvania and Ohio. In March of 2004, the company announced that a specific site had not been determined, but that a Southeast location was favored. A decision was finally made in July 2004.
Poeppelmann Plastics Company, headquartered in Lohne, Germany, was founded in 1949. The company has over 1,100 employees, with subsidiaries and sales offices in France, Spain, England, Denmark, Belgium, and the Netherlands. Poeppelmann manufactures high performance technical injection molded parts, plastic protective elements, components and packaging for pharmaceutics, cosmetics, and medical, food, and horticultural products. Poeppelmann also operates another plastics facility in Cummings, Georgia.
