Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Privately held, locally integrated fuel ethanol producer Cornhusker Energy Lexington LLC (Lexington, Nebraska) is winding down construction activity on the company's Lexington, Nebraska, fuel ethanol plant. The company fired up the new equipment during the first week of October, and has since brought it offline for equipment adjustments and process tweaking.
Originally, plans were to expand to 150 million gallons per year in 2007, but after that ethanol prices shrank along with margins, and corn prices began to rise. The plant is now positioned to become a mid-tier producer that can better manage risk with a 60 million-gallon-per-year capacity.
The plant utilizes Vogelbusch USA Incorporated (Katy, Texas), and construction and equipment installations were handled by local subcontractors and Cornhusker crews. Cost estimates to construct the expansion were in the $25 million to $30 million range.
The plant is located southeast of Lexington, Nebraska, on Prospect Road in Dawson County, roughly 61 miles southeast of North Platte, Nebraska.
