Cubapetróleo Defines Project for Crude & Vacuum Units at Ñico Lopez Refinery in Cuba

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Córdoba, Argentina)--Cubapetróleo (CUPET) (La Habana, Cuba), which is the owner and operator of the 36,000-barrel-per-day (BBL/d) Nico Lopez Refinery in the city of La Habana, is planning a shutdown for the 36,000-BBL/d Crude Distillation Unit and the 12,000-BBL/d Vacuum Distillation Unit.

The scope of the work will be focused on the replacement of the main distillation tower and repairs to a furnace in the convection and refractory section. The shutdown is scheduled to begin on September 1, 2010, and units are expected to be brought back online by October 15.

The new Distillation Tower T-101, which is designed and constructed by RPD (China), was shipped to Cuba and arrived on March 11. To begin working on the new distillation tower, it is necessary to dismantle the existing one. The bidding process for remaining work will be completed by the end of May.
