CRUDE OIL
Crude Oil, Gasoline Prices Rise - An unplanned outage at BP plc's (NYSE:BP) refinery in Whiting, Indiana, helped drive up U.S. crude prices by $1.09 per barrel and Brent $1.80 per barrel. U.S. gasoline prices were up 4%.
PRODUCTION
Shell Asks Feds to Drill Deeper in Arctic - Royal Dutch Shell (RDS.A) (The Hague, Netherlands) has asked U.S. regulators permission to drill its Arctic exploration wells deeper than the 3,000-foot limit imposed by the government as the newly repaired icebreaker MSV Fennica is scheduled to arrive at the drilling site with emergency equipment on Tuesday.
Athabasca Cuts Oil Production Because of Pipeline Shutdown - Athabasca Oil Corporation (Calgary, Alberta) says that it has halted the production of 4,200 barrels of oil equivalent a day of light oil because of the closure of Alliance Pipeline's (Calgary) shutdown of its 1.6 billion-cubic-feet-per-day natural gas mainline in western Canada.
REFINING
U.S. Continues Record Refinery Input - Data from the United States Energy Information Administration (EIA) (Washington, D.C.) shows that U.S. refiners are continuing their record-breaking productivity, setting a new high for the agency's four-week rolling average for U.S. refinery inputs. The four weeks leading up to July 31 were the four highest weeks of U.S. refinery inputs in data that dates back to 1982.
