Supreme Court Rules Against Maryland Natural Gas Power Plant Subsidies - The Supreme Court issued an 8-0 ruling against Maryland's plans to subsidize construction of new natural gas-fired power plants, saying that it infringed on the U.S. Federal Energy Regulatory Commission's authority to regulate interstate wholesale electricity markets.
Big Wyoming Windfarm Wins Preliminary BLM Support, Waits for Fish & Wildlife Service - A huge proposed windfarm in Wyoming took a step forward last month when the U.S. Bureau of Land Management (BLM) (Washington, D.C.) said Phase I of the proposed Chokecherry and Sierra Madre Windfarm would not have a significant impact on the environment. Phase I of the project calls for a 1,500-megawatt (MW) windfarm to be built south of Rawlins, Wyoming, at a cost of about $2.6 billion.

Exxon Starts Oil Production in Julia Oil Field in Gulf of Mexico - Exxon Mobil Corporation (NYSE:XOM) (Irving, Texas) announced on Tuesday that it has started crude oil production at its Julia oil field in the Gulf of Mexico, approximately 265 miles southwest of New Orleans. The first production well is online, with the second scheduled to begin production in the coming weeks.

Chevron Lines Up Contract for Australia's Wheatstone LNG Plant - Chevron Corporation (NYSE:CVX) (San Ramon, California) has announced that it has agreed to sell 20 petajoules of gas for seven years from its Wheatstone liquefied natural gas (LNG) project in Australia to Alinta Energy in Western Australia. The contract represents 27% of Wheatstone's output.

Warmer Weather Causes Upturn in Gas Prices - U.S. natural gas futures for May delivery were up 14.8 cents or 7.6% on Tuesday on a U.S. government weather model that forecast above-normal temperatures for the Midwest and Mid-Atlantic next week.
