Researched by Industrialinfo.com (Industrial Information Resources, Incorporated; Houston, Texas). The Dallas Morning News (Dallas, Texas), a subsidiary of the Belo Corporation (NYSE:BLC) (Dallas, Texas), is currently planning a $100 million expansion in Dallas, Texas.

Plans are to construct a newspaper production and distribution center to support distribution and production needs. The center will be built on Langdon Road, located on fifty acres in the Southport Business Center, and will consist of a 350,000 square foot building to be constructed in phases. The project will involve the installation of a four-color press, relocation of three sheet-fed and roll-fed presses from their Arlington printing plant, addition of a newspaper distribution center, expansion of press operations, and the installation of an automated storage and retrieval system for preprints. The new plant will handle preprinted advertisements that appear in the Sunday edition of the newspaper.

The Beck Group, of Dallas, Texas, is the consultant overseeing the project as program manager. The Austin Company, headquartered in Cleveland, Ohio is providing architectural and engineering services for the new center. A general contractor will be selected in July 2005, with Phase 1 construction beginning in the fall of 2005. Additional construction phases will occur between 2006 and 2009. Overall completion for all phases is expected in the fall of 2010.

The Belo Corporation, headquartered in Dallas, Texas, was founded in 1842. A Fortune 1000 company with approximately 7,600 employees and annual revenues of $1.5 billion, it is considered one of the nation’s largest media companies, with ownership of nineteen television stations, four daily newspapers, including the Dallas Morning News (Dallas, Texas), The Providence Journal (Providence, Rhode Island), The Press-Enterprise (Riverside, California), and the Denton Record-Chronicle (Denton, Texas), and is owner/operator of seven cable news channels and over thirty web sites.
