Danish Firm Puts 130-Megawatt Offshore Windfarm for Taiwan on Hold

Alpha Wind Energy APS (Bjerringbro, Denmark) has been studying the construction of a 120 to 130-megawatt (MW) offshore windfarm off the Taiwanese west coast near Han-pao just north of Chang-hua. The windfarm is being held up by the local government’s failure to make a decision on price structure. Taiwan Power Company (Taipower) has established a fixed price for wind energy projects making it is unfeasible to build bank-financed projects with the current costs and availability of wind turbine sets. The project is therefore on hold until the price of wind energy goes up and Alpha Wind Energy can find an investment partner.
