Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas). Degussa (Dusseldorf, Germany), one of the world’s top 500 corporations and a global market leader in specialty chemicals, is investing $28.6 million to build a new cyanuric chloride plant in the city of Chongqing in West China.

This new plant covers an area equivalent to around 82,708 square meters and construction will start in August or September 2007. Annual production capacity of cyanuric chloride is expected to reach 30,000 tons once the construction is completed in September 2008. Cyanuric chloride produced at this plant will be mainly sold to East China, South China and Middle China as well as overseas markets. Cyanuric chloride is mostly used to produce end products like paint, dye, pesticides, and herbicides.

The contract is between Degussa Sanzheng (Yingkou) Fine Chemicals Company and Chongqing Changshou Chemical Industrial Park (Chongqing, China). The completion of this project is expected to help boost Chongqing Changshou Chemical Industrial Park’s strength in the chemical industry and it will also lay a foundation for further local industry line expansion. Degussa Sanzheng (Yingkou) Fine Chemicals Company is Asia’s largest cyanuric chloride production and export base, and it is under control of Degussa (China) Company, Limited.

Degussa started producing special chemical products in China in the 1990s and it now has over 20 companies in China. Its manufacturing bases across China include Shanghai, Dalian (Liaoning Province, Northeast China) and Qingdao (Shandong Province, East China). Degussa now has 4,000 employees in China. The sales volume of the 2006 fiscal year reached $620 million, registering a 60% year-on-year increase. It’s expected that Degussa’s sales in China will rise to over $1 billion in the upcoming three years. Degussa (China) Company, Limited was established at the end of 2002 and it’s responsible for Degussa’s investment activities in China.
