Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--The Transportation Industry continues to grow as demand increases to secure funds to upgrade airport infrastructures in the U.S. Most airports in the country average 40 years in age and are in need of modern terminals integrated to larger transport like rail systems, which would let passengers reach the airports more easily. Only 60% of airports are connected to passenger rail. Many airports do not have enough space for additional services to increase passenger capacity. Industrial info is tracking four airport structure upgrade projects totaling $6.82 billion.
In New York and New Jersey, where a majority of growth is occurring, projects include the $3.93 billion dollar LaGuardia Airport Terminal B Redevelopment, adding a 1.3 million square-foot building and 35 airport terminal gates plus demolition and construction of interior and exterior building systems. Construction is anticipated to begin in late spring of 2016. Another project is the $2.8 Terminal A redevelopment at Newark Liberty International Airport, adding a 1 million square-foot building and 33 airport terminal gates plus a 3,000-vehicle garage. Construction on this project, begins spring of this year and is anticipated for completion in the winter of 2017.
In Atlanta, Georgia, Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport is planning a $25 million, 130,000 square-foot, two-story airport cargo building. Construction began in spring of this year, and it is set for completion this winter.
In Little Rock, Arkansas, Dassault Falcon Jet Corporation, a unit of Dassault Aviation SA (Paris, France), is planning a $60 million hangar/jet completion center, adding a 250,000 square-foot production facility plus installing upgrades to older hangars. Construction began in the fall of 2014 and is anticipated for completion in spring of this year.
