Researched by Industrial Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Dematic Corporation (Grand Rapids, Michigan) has announced the closing of its 117,000-square-foot manufacturing plant in Hebron, Kentucky. The plant designs and manufactures automated material-handling, conveyor and storage systems.
Dematic has a global presence in Europe, China and Australia. Dematic Corporation produces retrieval systems for warehousing tasks, such as the handling of pallets, trays, bins and wire-mesh boxes. The Kentucky plant specializes in logistics solutions that optimize material and information flow within the plant.
Plant Manager Ed Bihl said that closing the Hebron factory is part of an effort to shrink expenses worldwide and remain competitive. Consolidating the Hebron plant into the company's Grand Rapids facility will eliminate 90 jobs, including maintenance engineers, machine operators and assemblers. Employees were told the first phase of job cuts will begin April 9 and will be completed by June 17, 2011. Eligible workers will receive severance benefits and career training assistance. Dematic plans to lease the facility upon removal and relocation of equipment.
