DTE Energy Services has completed all of the structural steel work on the company's biomass conversion on the Port of Stockton District Energy Facility.
Released Tuesday, July 10, 2012
Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--DTE Energy Services (DTEES) (Ann Arbor, Michigan), a subsidiary of DTE Energy Company (NYSE:DTE) (Detroit, Michigan) has completed all of the structural steel work on the company's biomass conversion at the Port of Stockton District Energy Facility. Contractors installed the topping-out steel I-beam and an American flag. They also planted a traditional evergreen tree on top of the structure for good luck and growth.
The former coal-fired plant, which shut down in April 2009, will be converted to burn 100% biomass fuel, primarily wood fuel derived from urban wood waste, tree trimmings and agricultural residues. It will produce about 45 megawatts (MW) of power once it is fully commissioned.
Construction of the estimated $100 million project started in January 2012, and the conversion is expected to be completed by mid to late 2013. The plant is being built by ESI Incorporated of Tennessee (Kennesaw, Georgia) along with a host of union contractors.
This project is not the first coal-to-biomass conversion project that ESI Incorporated has completed. The company completed a 63-MW conversion at Mount Poso Cogeneration in Bakersfield, California, earlier this year and a 53-MW conversion in Cassville, Wisconsin, back in mid-2010.
DTEES acquires, develops, builds, owns and operates projects for large, energy-intensive industrial customers. DTE Energy is a diversified energy company with operations in 26 states.
