Duke Energy Luna Project on Track for 2003 Start-Up
The first turbine will arrive at the site this August and first fire is expected by early summer 2003
Researched by Industrialinfo.com (Industrial Information Resources, Incorporated; Houston, Texas). A $250 million power plant under construction by Duke Energy North America (DENA), an affiliate of Duke Energy (NYSE: DUK) (Charlotte, North Carolina), will help to light up the skies over New Mexico when it comes online in 2003. Duke/Fluor Daniel (D/FD), the project's engineering, procurement, and construction contractor, is subcontracting all of the project construction activities.
According to Britt Burt, Manager of Power for Industrialinfo.com, "Luna Energy, located two miles north of Deming, is a 600 mega-watt (MW) natural gas-fired merchant power plant that will utilize two GE Frame 7 combustion turbines, two Aalborg heat recovery steam generators (HRSG), and a GE steam turbine generator in a combined-cycle configuration. Since breaking ground last September, construction has progressed to the 25% completion mark without any interruptions. The first turbine will arrive at the site this August and first fire is expected by early summer 2003."
Duke Energy employs over 23,000 people worldwide and generated revenues of over $59 billion in 2001. Duke is also the largest producer of natural gas liquids (NGL), number two in gas marketing, third in power marketers, and one of the top ten power generators in the United States.
