ECEPDI Wins Bid for Tianshenggang Coal-Fired Power Plant Expansion in China's Jiangsu Province

BEIJING--November 11, 2009--Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--East China Electric Power Design Institute (ECEPDI) (Shanghai), a subsidiary of China Power Engineering Consultancy Corporation (CPECC) (Beijing), was pre-selected in bidding for the engineering and survey services for the Tianshenggang coal-fired power plant's proposed 2,000-megawatt (MW) expansion project in Nantong City of East China's Jiangsu Province, CPECC announced on October 23, 2009. ECEPDI received the notice of bid pre-award issued by Jiangsu International Tendering Company Limited (Nanjing, Jiangsu).

Tianshenggang Power Plant is in the town of Tianshenggang, adjacent to the Yangtze River, occupying about 2.76 million square meters. The power plant was built in 1934. After several expansions, the power plant has a total installed capacity of 1,210 MW, including four 137.5-MW units built in the 1990s and two 330-MW units commissioned in March and August 2005. The power plant is owned and operated by Nantong Tianshenggang Power Generation Company Limited (Nantong, Jiangsu), a subsidiary of China Longyuan Electric Power Group Corporation Limited (Beijing).

The company plans to build two 1,000-MW coal-fired units, as well as flue gas desulfuration and denitration devices in the mode of "replacing inefficient small units with large units" by terminating the existing small, inefficient units built in phases V and VI in the plant area.

According to the schedule, one of the two units will begin operation at the end of 2010, and the other will begin operation in 2011. Upon completion, the project will effectively solve the problem of power shortage in Jiangxi Grid in the end of the 11th five-year plan (2006-10) and the beginning of the 12th five-year plan (2011-15).
