Researched by Industrial Information Resources (Sugar Land, Texas) -- Edwin Hatch Nuclear Station located in Baxley, Georgia, tripped the 900-megawatt Unit 02 on August 7, 2007, due to a main motor control breaker bus failure. The Hatch station is jointly owned by Georgia Power Company, a subsidiary of Southern Company (NYSE:SO ), Oglethorpe Power, Municipal Electric Authority, and the City of Dalton, Georgia.

Plant officials confirmed that the main motor control bus breaker failed due to low water levels in the feed water and condensate pumps. Sources confirmed that both pumps were shutoff to control any excess flow of water to the generator although they are still investigating the problem.
