Egypt's EETC Invites Developers to Submit Prequalification Documentation for 2,150 Megawatts of Power Projects

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--The 2012-17 five-year plan of the Egyptian ministry of electricity and energy to add 10,750 megawatts (MW) of generating capacity involves the implementation of several projects throughout the country. At the end of the 2007-08 fiscal year, three projects worth $15.5 million were set in motion:

  • constructing a 66/22/11-kilovolt (kV) substation in central Hurghada
  • constructing a 66/11-kV tourist center substation
  • replacement and renovation of the El Seil substation
Egyptian Electricity Transmission Company (EETC) launched the plan by inviting international developers, engineers, and machine suppliers to submit prequalification documents for the following projects:

The Suez Power Station
Egyptian Electricity Holding Company, through its affiliate company East Delta Electricity Production Company (EDEPC), is inviting international consulting firms to participate and submit proposals for providing required consulting services. This package will be financed by EDEPC. The scope of work includes, but is not limited to engineering, procurement and construction management services for the project. The project will consist of two lots:
  1. LOT A - construct a 650-MW conventional steam power plant
  2. LOT B - re-power the existing 100-MW steam turbine by constructing a new boiler and the required balance of plant to support the unit; inspect and maintain the existing steam turbine and its auxiliary equipment
Implement a power plant in Dairut
The project involves construction of two 750-MW combined-cycle units capable of firing natural gas and light oil. Developers may propose an option for a 3×750-MW plant at the same site. The configuration of each module is (2+2+1), with each gas turbine having installed nominal capacity of 250 MW or more. The project developer will be required to design, finance, construct, own and operate the plant. The power will be sold to EETC under a 20-year power purchase agreement. Prequalification documents are currently available and may be obtained from EETC.

The two projects will be brought online in 2013 and will add 2,150 MW to the country's power generation.
