Researched by Industrial Info Resources China (Beijing, China)--The environmental impact assessment (EIA) report of Hebei Iron & Steel Group Mining Company Limited's (Tangshan, Hebei) Macheng iron ore mining and preparation project has received approval from the Ministry of Environmental Protection (MEP).
The Macheng iron ore mine, located in Macheng Town in Luannan County of Tangshan City, is a large-scale, grassroot iron ore mine planned for the Sijiaying Mining Zone in North China's Hebei province. The iron ore mining and preparation project is mainly comprised of the underground mining works, the iron ore preparation works, landfill works, mining waste transportation pipeline works and other common and auxiliary support works, such as the heat exchange station and environmental protection works. According to the report, the project will have a design output of 25 million metric tons per year (MM T/yr) of iron ore and 9.42 MM T/yr of iron ore concentrates. The iron ore mine will have a service life of 39 years. Total investment in the project will be about $1.57 billion, including $12.3 million for environment protection.
Under the mandate of Hebei Iron and Steel Group, Beijing General Research Institute of Mining and Metallurgy (BGRIMM) (Beijing) kicked off the EIA study in late 2010. In February and August 2011, the BGRIMM called for public input and published its draft version of EIA for comments, respectively. In January 2012, the prepared EIA report passed the examination of the expert panel organization by the Environmental Engineering Evaluation Center of the MEP.
EIA report is an important support document for the final approval of a mining project. Presently, the project owner is working closely with the MCC Northern Engineering & Technology Company (Anshan, Liaoning), the project designer, in achieving final approval for the project.
