Elk is currently performing a $78 Million building expansion, which began construction back in August 2002. Completion of the 400,000 square foot building expansion is targeted for March 2004.
After completion of the current expansion, Elk is reviewing options to build a $10-$15 million filler mill (PEC 044002681) at the site. If approved, construction of the new filler mill could begin as early as June of 2004. The new filler mill will be used to grind crushed limestone into a fine power for use as a filler for asphalt tar, which is used in the company's roofing product manufacturing.
Elk Corporation was founded in 1955 in Dallas, Texas and through its subsidiaries, manufactures premium roofing products and industrial products, and provides electronics manufacturing services. Elk operates manufacturing facilities in Ennis, Texas (Plant 1019115), Tuscaloosa, Alabama (Plant 1020860), Shafter, California (Plant 1019117), and Myerstown, Pennsylvania (Plant 1041210). Elk produces shingles, roofing, laminated asphalt shingles, laminated asphalt roofing, asphalt saturated fiberglass shingles, and fiberglass shingles. Elk's laminated roofing products are listed as the most highly quality commercial roofing shingles available in the roofing industry today.
