Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--ESG Biofuels (Live Oak) LLC (Conley, Georgia), a subsidiary of Energy Systems Group LLC (Newburgh, Indiana), and parent company Vectren Corporation (NYSE:VVC) (Evansville, Indiana) are currently going through start-up procedures and will soon be operating a landfill methane gas processing plant in Conley, Georgia.
The gas plant is located at the Waste Management of Georgia Incorporated's (Atlanta, Georgia) Live Oak landfill in Conley. The plant will capture landfill gas that is currently being flared and process it into pipeline-quality gas that will be pressurized and injected into a natural-gas pipeline traversing the landfill site.
What was essentially a waste gas stream will now be converted into 8,000 cubic feet per minute of natural gas. A 25 million-Btu-per-hour thermal oxidizer will burn the waste gas from the gas-treatment plant and is the sole emission source for the entire operation. The plant will decrease the use of fossil fuels, lower gas emissions that contribute to global warming and minimize the local environmental impact of the landfill.
Energy Systems Group operates a similar plant in Johnson City, Tennessee, and has won several awards. In 2007, the company won the Tennessee Governor's Award for Excellence in Energy Leadership and the Solid Waste Association of North America's Bronze Excellence in Solid Waste Management Award in Landfill Gas Utilization.
