Enhance Energy and North West Upgrading Proceeding with CCS Project in Alberta

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Enhance Energy Incorporated (Calgary, Alberta) and North West Upgrading (Calgary) have formed a 50:50 joint partnership and are proceeding with plans to construct a carbon capture and storage (CCS) facility in Redwater, Alberta. The companies are looking to capture CO2 emissions from the planned three-phased, 150,000-barrel-per-day upgrader and will transport and distribute the CO2 via pipeline.

The facility will reduce CO2 emissions by approximately 3,500 tons per day for each of the three targeted phases. Caber Engineering (Calgary) is performing preliminary design for the project, which is expected to obtain approval in late 2010. The joint venture partnership will select an engineering firm to perform engineering and procurement services and a construction manager in late 2010. The construction is anticipated to commence in the fall of 2011.
