Centrica PLC's (Windsor, Berkshire, United Kingdom) Glens of Foudland $54 million (U.S.), 26-megawatt (MW) windfarm near Huntly, Aberdeenshire, has been completed and is in the final testing stages. Glens of Foudland Windfarm was developed and built by Renewable Energy Systems Limited (RES) (Kings Langley, Hertfordshire, United Kingdom), a company in the Sir Robert McAlpine Limited (Hemel Hempstead, Hertfordshire, United Kingdom) family of companies.
RES started The Glens of Foudland Windfarm's civil and electrical engineering and construction in June 2004. The company utilized twenty 1.3 MW wind turbine/generator sets to provide renewable energy that, when at full capacity, can provide energy for up to 26,000 homes. Utilization of wind generation, instead of fossil fuel, is expected to reduce about 60,000 tons of carbon dioxide greenhouse gases.
