Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--First Solar Incorporated's (NASDAQ:FSLR) (Tempe, Arizona) 32-megawatt (MW) solar power project in Lost Hills, California, is set to begin construction this month on a 307-acre site. Commercial operations are expected by the spring of 2015.
First Solar has signed a 10-year power purchase agreement with the municipal utility in Roseville, California. The contract will be effective in 2015, when the facility becomes operational.
First Solar has named McCarthy Building Companies (St. Louis, Missouri) the general contractor. McCarthy will award any remaining work to specialty subcontractors.
The Lost Hills project will use First Solar's thin-film, cadmium telluride photovoltaic solar panels; a horizontal single-axis tracking system; and auxiliary equipment, such as a ground-mounting system, underground cable and support brackets.
The company also is awaiting approval to construct its 60-MW North Star solar project in Fresno County, California, and 40-MW Cuyama Valley solar project in Santa Barbara County. Both are scheduled to be constructed this year.
