Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Fulcrum Bioenergy Incorporated (Pleasanton, California) picked Abengoa (NASDAQ:ABGB) (Seville, Spain) construction arm Abeinsa as the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contractor for the Sierra Biofuels LLC (McCarran, Nevada) plant, which is located in Tahoe-Reno Industrial Center, east of Reno in Storey County, Nevada.
Fulcrum began work on the waste-to-ethanol plant in 2010, when it announced it was looking at Fluor Corporation (NYSE:FLR) (Irving, Texas) to build the plant. However, the project was hit with financial setbacks, and Fulcrum dropped Fluor from consideration. Fulcrum decided in April this year to go with Abeinsa.

The Sierra Biofuels plant is designed to process 200,000 tons of municipal solid waste (MSW) each year into 10.5 million gallons of jet fuel. Construction of the estimated $200 million plant is expected to begin in the fall and take about two years to complete.
The company has secured a 20-year feedstock agreement with Waste Management (NYSE:MN) (Houston, Texas) and Waste Connections (NYSE:WCN) (The Woodlands, Texas), as well as a 10-year jet fuel offtake agreement with Cathay Pacific Airways (Hong Kong) for 10 years.
