Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Delhi, India)--Abu Dhabi Gas Industries Limited's (GASCO) (Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates) flare gas recovery system addition project at Habshan Complex, which was scheduled to be commissioned in December 2012, is now likely to be on-stream by April 2013. The slow progress of certain major pre-commissioning activities is reported to be the cause of the delay.
The proposed acid flare facility in Habshan is intended to recover 5 million standard cubic feet per day of acid gas from Habshan-0, Habshan-1 and Habshan-2 plants during normal operation of the units, with a total throughput of 15 million standard cubic feet per day. The recovery unit will extract hydrocarbon gas from the flare system and will inject it back into the existing processes at Habshan complex after recompression. Gas processing and the extraction of natural gas take place at four GASCO plants: Asab, Bab, Buhasa and Habshan.
Tebodin Middle East Limited (Abu Dhabi) has been appointed project management consultant, while the engineering, procurement and construction contract has been awarded to Consolidated Contractors Company (CCCL:IN) (Athens, Greece).
The proposed project will help to reduce the quantity of hydrocarbon flare gases released from the production processes of natural associated and non-associated gases. "It is expected that the project will reduce the emission of associated greenhouse gases by 33,602 tons of carbon dioxide per year," said a GASCO statement. "The country's gas processing company, GASCO, is aiming for a serious reduction in gas flaring at Habshan, which is set to become the world's largest gas treatment plant."
GASCO was established and incorporated in 1978 to utilize and exploit Abu Dhabi's resources of associated gas, which had hitherto been flared during oil extraction. Ever since its inception, the company has taken up various environmental countermeasures, with the objective of reducing waste gas and materials for improving the energy efficiency of its process units.
