Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--The engineering kick-off ceremony for China National Offshore Oil Corporation's (CNOOC) (Beijing) Zhuhai gas-fired cogeneration project was held recently in Guangdong Electric Power Design Institute (GEDI) (Guangzhou, Guangdong), a subsidiary of China Energy Engineering Group Corporation (CEEC) (Beijing). This means that the preliminary engineering for the project has officially kicked off, the CEEC announced on May 10, 2012.
The project is located in the Gaolan Port Economic Zone, a provincial-level economic development zone in South China's Guangdong province. The project is important in implementing Guangdong's "green Gaolan Port strategy." According to plans, the project will have 12 sets of F-class, combined-cycle units to meet the increasing electricity and heat demand in Gaolan Port Economic Zone, Zhuhai, as well as its surrounding area. Of which, two 460-megawatt (MW), improved F-class combined-cycle units for combined heat and power supply will be built in Phase I, with a total investment of $484 million.
CNOOC Zhuhai Natural Gas Power Generation Company Limited (Zhuhai, Guangdong), a subsidiary of CNOOC Gas & Power Group, will serve as the project owner and will be responsible for the development and future operation of the project.
Early in 2008, CNOOC has signed the development agreement to build the project in Zhuhai. GEDI was then selected as the designer for the feasibility study of the project. In the beginning of 2011, the project was submitted to the Development and Reform Commission of Guangdong Province for approval, and it received approval in September 2011. On October 27, 2011, the groundbreaking ceremony for the project was held in the Gaolan Port Economic Zone. Invitation for bids on supply of gas turbine units were then issued in November 2011 and were awarded in the beginning of this year. According to the schedule, the project will begin operations in end of 2013.
