Georgia-Based Company Plans to Build Tissue Mill in South Carolina

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--South Carolina Tissue LLC (SCT) (Augusta, Georgia) recently cleared a major hurdle in its plan to build a tissue paper mill in Snelling, South Carolina, by settling on a site in the Advanced Technology Park in Barnwell County. SCT is investing $140 million in the construction of a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility that will process recycled paper for the production of giant rolls of tissue paper, also known as "parent rolls."

The company's plans call for the installation of two paper machines, with each machine producing 33,000 tons per year of tissue paper. Parent rolls will be sold to converters to produce tissue products, including napkins, paper towels and bathroom tissue.

SCT anticipates construction of the facility will begin in the first quarter of 2011, and plans to have it completed by early in the first quarter of 2012.

SCT is working with Jedson Engineering (Pooler, Georgia) and plans to utilize both local and regional contractors during the construction phase.

In addition to the SCT project, construction is under way on a tissue paper mill in Anderson, South Carolina, by First Quality Tissue. First Quality's investment in the Anderson site is estimated at more than $400 million and includes two paper machines and related converting lines.
