German Chemical-Engineering Giant Uhde Wins Contracts for Three Chinese Aromatic Projects

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--One of the world's top-ten chemical engineering companies, Uhde GmbH (Dortmund, Germany) has won contracts to build three aromatic plants in China.

Uhde signed a contract with Xuyang Coking Company (Xintai, Hebei province) to build a new aromatic facility in Tangshan, which is a two-hour drive east of Beijing. The new facility is expected to produce valuable aromatic fractions such as top-quality benzene, toluene and xylene. Products will be sold mainly in the Chinese market. The facility is expected to come online in 2010 and will have an eventual capacity of 60,000 tons of high-purity aromatics.

Uhde has also won two more contracts from Chinese coke producers. One involves constructing an aromatics plant for a coke plant in Qujing, Yunnan province, in Southwest China; the other is to build an aromatics plant in Wuhan, Hubei.

All three plants will be built based upon Uhde's Morphylane process. In the past year and a half, Uhde also has won three other aromatics plants contracts in Kazakhstan, South Korea and Qatar. Once built, the six plants will have a combined production capacity of more than 2 million tons of aromatics.

Worldwide, more than 60 plants exist that use Uhde's Morphylane process with a combined production capacity of more than 14 million tons of pure aromatics per year.
