German Pellet Maker to Build Wood Fuel Pellet Plant in Lone Star State

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--German Pellets Texas LLC (GPT) (Woodville, Texas), a subsidiary of German Pellets GMBH (Wismar, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Germany), is planning a wood fuel pellet plant in Woodville, Texas. GPT will invest $25 million in retrofitting the old Griffin Chipping Mill to produce the pellets. Griffin shut down the mill in 2005, and GPT purchased the facility in August 2011.

GPT chose Evans General Contractors (Savannah, Georgia) to retrofit the plant, and construction is set to begin by the end of this month. When completed, the plant is projected to produce 500,000 tons annually, which will be transported via truck to a port. The pellets then will be shipped to Europe for commercial power plant and home-heating usages.

The GPT plant is on a 200-acre site on County Road 1040, just south of Woodville, about 53 miles north of Beaumont, Texas.

There is one other wood fuel pellet plant in the planning stages in Texas. It will be near Beaumont and is projected to produce 275,000 tons per year.
