Researched by Industrialinfo.com (Industrial Information Resources, Incorporated; Houston, Texas). ERCO Worldwide (Toronto, Canada) a division of Superior Plus Incorporated (Calgary, Alberta) is planning to start production Thursday of this week for a grassroot 5,000 metric ton per year sodium chlorite plant in Thunder Bay, Ontario. Construction for this new plant began last summer and commissioning is now in progress.

The plant was designed and constructed with the ability to double its production capacity to 10,000 metric tons per year by simply changing a few pieces of key equipment. Engineers and staff of ERCO performed design and engineering necessary to construct this plant.

The new name ERCO Worldwide was created in March of this year and was formerly known as Sterling Pulp Chemicals Limited. Superior Plus purchased Sterling Pulp Chemicals Limited from Sterling Chemicals Incorporated in December of 2002 after Sterling had filed for bankruptcy. The ERCO name comes from the company's 100-year history of providing water treatment and pulp chemicals and their focus on Engineering, Research, Commitment, and Optimization (ERCO).

Sodium chlorite is used in the production of chlorine dioxide (CLO2), which in turn is used in a number of water treatment applications. Water treatment chemicals are enjoying a strong growth as consumer demand worldwide for water treatment applications is increasing.
