Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas). Amidst a cloud of opposition from local residents, plans for a new meat packing plant in Texas County near Hooker, Oklahoma is inching closer towards groundbreaking. Last fall, a 50/50 joint venture partnership of Smithfield Beef Group, Incorporated and ContiGroup Companies, Incorporated announced plans to build a $200 million state-of-the-art meat packing plant that would process up to 6,000 heads per day of cattle. Construction was slated for January and later postponed to April, not withstanding building permits. Presently, the schedule calls for site preparation to begin May-June and will signal the start of a fast-track project that will conclude with startup of operations by April 2009.
Vaughn Coltrane & Pharr Associates Incorporated (Tucker, Georgia) has been retained as the lead design engineering firm and is working with three other engineering firms.
Industrial Info is currently tracking over $7.2 billion in planned capital expenditures in the Food & Beverage Industry across the United States that are scheduled to start construction in 2007.
