Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--The Industrial and Commercial Administration of Shaoguan City recently issued the business license to CGNPC Shaoguan Nuclear Power Company Limited (Shaoguan, Guangdong), a subsidiary of China Guangdong Nuclear Power Corporation (CGNPC) (Shenzhen) that was established for the construction and operation of Shaoguan Nuclear Power Project. This marks the kick-off of CGNPC's Shaoguan Nuclear Power Project in Shaoguang.
As reported, the Shaoguan Nuclear Power Project is the first inland nuclear power project proposed in South China's Guangdong province. The project, in Baitu Town of Qujiang District, Shaoguan City, is a key project both in Shaoguan City and Guangdong province with a total investment of more than $7.3 billion.
Early in February 2006, CGNPC signed the framework agreement regarding Cooperative Development of Shaoguan Nuclear Power Project with the People's Government of Shaoguan City. In March 2009, CGNPC officially unveiled the Preparation Office for Shaoguan Nuclear Power Project to responsible for the pre-stage preparation of the project.
According to the schedule, Shaoguan Nuclear Power Project will be furnished with four 1,250-megawatt (MW), third-generation of advanced pressurized water reactor-based nuclear power units, with a total installed capacity of 5,000 MW. Construction on the project is expected to begin in 2011, and the first unit is expected to begin operations in 2015.
CGNPC is currently the largest nuclear power developer in China, with four large-scale nuclear power projects under construction in Guangdong, including Lingao II, Yangjiang, Taishan and Lufeng nuclear power projects. According to the planning, the installed capacity of nuclear power in Guangdong will reach 24 gigawatts (GW), with another 10 GW of nuclear power units under construction in 2020. In the next 15 years, the proportion of electricity generated from nuclear power will account for more than 20% of the total power consumption in Guangdong. Construction of Shaoguan Nuclear Power Project could create favorable conditions in achieving this important objective, said authorities at CGNPC.
