Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Dongya Paper has finished construction on a factory this month in the Urban Industrial Park of Chongzuo City where the sponsor, Guangxi Dongyz (East Asia) Paper Company Limited (Guangxi Autonomous Region) is headquartered. The factory uses sugar cane as a feedstock to make paper.
Dongya Paper and the factory are jointly invested by Guangxi Dongya Sugar Group (Nanning City, Guangxi) and Dongya Real Estate Company Limited (Hong Kong) for about $109.6 million. The finished first phase cost $68.5 million and will produce 60,000 tons of writing paper every year.
According to plans, the factory will be able to produce 95,000 tons of writing paper after the second phase is finished. A construction timeframe for Phase II has not been disclosed.
The factory mainly uses pressed sugar cane as raw material, processing it with continuous cooking. Waste will be treated with anaerobic, oxygen consumption and biologic procedures.
Dongya Sugar has five sugar factories in Chongzuo City processing more than 8 million tons of sugar cane every year (about half of Chongzuo's annual yield), leaving more than 500,000 tons of pressed sugar cane, enough for making 150,000 tons of paper. The project started in October 2004, three months after Dongya Paper was established.
Chongzuo is one of China's biggest cane-sugar-producing cities, producing 17.3 million tons of sugar canes on 224,670 hectares of sugar cane fields. Besides making paper, Chongzuo also has factories to make ethanol, yeast and organic acid. Waste water and residual are used to produce fertilizers.
