Researched by Industrial Info Resources China (Beijing, China)--As an important coal base proposed in northwest China's Xinjiang autonomous region, Hami has finalized seven key coal mining zones to promote the implementation of the nation's energy strategy to transmit power and coal east from Xinjiang, according to the Hami regional development plan for the coal industry, which recently was prepared by the Coal Industry Administration of the Hami prefecture and included in the 12th Five-Year Plan.
According to the plan, seven coal mining zones--Sandaoling, Shaerhu, Dananhu, West Balikun, Santanghu, Naomaohu and Yemaquan--are selected as the key mining zones to be developed in Hami. The coal output of the region is expected to reach more than 150 million metric tons by the end of 2015, including 90 million metric tons to be shipped outside of the region. The total installed capacity of coal-fired units will reach 20 gigawatts (GW), including 16 GW to be transmitted outside of the region. By the end of 2020, the coal output of the region will reach more than 300 million metric tons, including about 120 million metric tons to be shipped outside of the region.
Based on the rich coal resources, as well as the position advantage, more than 30 large enterprise groups--including China Shenhua Group (Beijing), State Development and Investment Corporation (Beijing), the State Grid Corporation of China (Beijing), China Huadian Corporation (Beijing), China Huaneng Group (Beijing), Chongqing Energy Group (Chongqing) and Luan Coal (Luan, Shanxi)--had been introduced to the region in the past years. So far, the construction of 16 coal mine projects has kicked off. In 2011, the coal output of Hami reached 17.85 million metric tons .
In addition to coal mining, Hami also is actively working on expanding its industrial chain to coal power and coal chemical industries. State Grid Corporation's 600-megawatt (MW) cogeneration project recently began operations. Guanghui New Energy's Phase I, 1.2-million-metric-ton methanol project, 850,000-metric-ton dimethyl enther project, and the 500 million-cubic-meter, coal-based gasification project have been put into operation.
