Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Developers are planning to add about 1,320 megawatts (MW) on the Hawaiian Islands. This is an increase of more than 59% from the existing capacity. Hawaii currently has about 2,227 MW of operational generation at 14 plants throughout the islands. Because of transmission constraints, each island needs enough generation to enable it to be self-reliant.
