Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Industrial Info is tracking the status of industrial facilities across Florida and South Carolina that were impacted by Hurricane Ian last week. Listed below are some of our findings for the Pharmaceutical & Biotech and Metals & Minerals industries.
Pharmaceutical & Biotech
Of the 58 pharmaceutical and biotech facilities in Florida that were offline due to Hurricane Ian, 42 were back online Monday with no significant damage.
Industrial Info was unable to contact 14 Florida facilities by telephone. These include seven in Pinellas County, three in Lee County, three in Sarasota County and one in Hillsborough County.
In South Carolina, six pharma-biotech facilities were closed due to Ian, but at least four were back online as of Monday. Industrial Info was unable to contact a facility in Berkeley County and a facility in Charleston County.
Metals & Minerals
As of Monday, Industrial Info was tracking about 25 metals and minerals plants that were offline in Florida. Some facilities still were not responding to inquiries, so Industrial Info was unable to confirm their operational status.
Employees at some reopened locations in the path of the storm have indicated that while there was much flooding around them, their facilities incurred minimal damage.
Almost all of Nucor Corporation's (NYSE:NUE) (Charlotte, North Carolina) Trademark Metals Recycling plants were back online with no or relatively little damage.
Nucor's office in Charlotte confirmed that its Steel Rebar Micro Mill in Frostproof, Florida, should be back online today. Oldcastle Building Envelope's flat-glass plant in Miami, Florida, was only closed for one day and did not sustain any major damage.
Most of The Mosaic Company's (NYSE:MOS) (Tampa, Florida) mines that were in the path of the storm were open Monday, but not yet in production. The company still was making damage assessments. Officials told Industrial Info that they hoped their facilities would be back online by the end of the week.
Several manufacturing plants, like Alro Steel Corporation's (Jackson, Michigan) plant in Orlando, Florida, were technically open for business with a skeleton crew, but still were without external power and were running on a generator.
